Biography

Dorrit Jacob has a background in geosciences with a strong focus on cosmochemical themes. She worked as a chemical laboratory assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Germany and studied Mineralogy and Geology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where she obtained her doctorate. Her PhD thesis was supervised at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry. She was awarded the DFG Heisenberg Chair in Biomineralization in 2012 and has since been recognized for her contributions to the field. In 2013, she took a full professorship in Australia at Macquarie University and was promoted to full professor in 2016. Jacob has served as the director of the Research School of Earth Sciences at the Australian National University from 2020 to 2025. Her research interests include Biomineralization, Diamond Formation, Earth's Mantle, Geochemistry, Laser Ablation ICP-MS, Vibrational Spectroscopy, and Geological Processes. Additionally, she is actively involved in student supervision and has engaged in several collaborative projects that aim to enhance the understanding of earth sciences.
