Biography

Doug Blank is a consultant neonatologist and Senior Research Fellow at the Ritchie Centre, Department of Paediatrics, Monash University. His research interests include neonatal resuscitation, particularly delayed cord clamping, and understanding the impact of lung ultrasound on fetal and neonatal lung and heart changes at birth. Born and educated in the USA, he completed his residency and fellowship in Neonatology in San Diego, California, contributing to the care of children living with HIV in eSwatini from 2009 to 2011. He returned to the USA for his clinical fellowship and moved to Melbourne in 2014 to pursue his PhD at the Ritchie Centre, where he won the 'People’s Choice' award in the Monash University 3MT competition for his thesis on umbilical cord management at birth. He coordinates the education program for NICU trainees at Monash and enjoys exploring Melbourne’s playgrounds with his four school-aged sons.
