Biography

Douglas M. Bregman is a lecturer at Columbia Law School and a founding partner at Bregman, Berbert, Schwartz & Gilday, L.L.C., a law firm based in suburban Washington, D.C. With over 35 years of experience, Bregman has maintained a general civil practice, focusing on transactional real estate, business representation, mediation, arbitration, and civil litigation. He has held faculty positions at Georgetown University Law Center since 1992 and Columbia Law School since 2011, and he recently joined Howard University Law School in 2023. Bregman has received several awards, including the Charles Fahy Distinguished Adjunct Professor of the Year Award from Georgetown University Law Center in 2008 and the Distinguished Maryland Real Property Practitioner Award from the State Bar Association's Real Property Section in 2017. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, having been elected in 2004. Bregman is the author of several publications, including the Maryland Landlord-Tenant Law, Practice and Procedure, Fifth Edition, published by Lexis Nexis in 2023, and Successful Real Estate Negotiation (with Peter G. Miller), published by Harper Perennial in 1994.
