Douglas Cook is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Queen's University and an attending staff member at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre. He completed his MD and PhD residency at the University of Toronto, followed by fellowship training at Stanford University, specializing in Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery. Cook’s research focuses on understanding the disruption of network dynamics in the physiology of neurological injury and the recovery process. His lab employs non-human primate models for stroke and human models for traumatic brain injury (TBI). Using multimodality MRI markers, the lab assesses physiology, network connectivity, and structural integrity to provide a comprehensive evaluation of brain health and focal deficits. Additionally, neurobehavioural outcome measures are collected using the KINARM robot across species. This platform is particularly suited for translational studies in stroke and TBI, facilitating the assessment of novel pharmacotherapy, devices, and treatments for acute stroke and chronic stroke recovery TBI. Cook's lab is supported by multiple grants from organizations such as the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and Brain Canada.
