Biography

Douglas J. Demetrick serves as a Professor at the University of Calgary, having been recruited in 1995. He is a member of four university departments: Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Oncology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Medical Genetics. He is the Director of the Molecular Pathology Laboratory for Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS) and serves as a program leader for research development at CLS, alongside his role as a consultant pathologist at the Tom Baker Cancer Center. Dr. Demetrick has been instrumental as a founding member of the Alberta Cancer Foundation's Research Tumor Tissue Repository and has chaired numerous grant panels at national, provincial, and local medical levels. He completed his medical education and internship in Anatomic Pathology at the University of Calgary. His research focuses on the identification and characterization of molecular biomarkers in cancer progression and treatment response, developing novel molecular diagnostic tests, and applying machine learning strategies to biological health data. Throughout his career, Dr. Demetrick has received multiple awards for his contributions to research and education.
