Biography

Douglas W. Diamond is the Merton H. Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He has been a faculty member since 1979 and is known for his groundbreaking research on financial intermediaries and financial crises, which earned him the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2022. He is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and has been recognized as a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the Econometric Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, he served as president of both the American Finance Association and the Western Finance Association. His academic accolades include the Onassis Prize in Finance (2018) and the CME Group-Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Prize for Innovative Quantitative Applications (2016). Diamond has taught at Yale as a visiting professor and has held positions at institutions such as the MIT Sloan School of Management and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Brown University in 1975 and continued his education at Yale University, where he obtained master's degrees in 1976 and 1977, followed by a PhD in economics in 1980.
