Biography

Douglas Finkbeiner is a Professor of Astronomy at Harvard University, with a focus on physics and astrophysics. Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he graduated from Pioneer High School in 1989 and later attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a dual degree in Physics and German Literature in 1994. Finkbeiner continued his studies as a graduate student at UC Berkeley, where he collaborated on projects to create a dust map beneficial for estimating Galactic extinction and Galactic microwave emission. Following his postdoctoral research at Princeton, he contributed to the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the Pan-STARRS programs, working on photometric solutions for extensive astronomical databases. Finkbeiner's research has investigated various phenomena, including the unexpected excess observed in the Milky Way and the implications of dark matter.
