Biography

Douglas Paul holds a Master's degree in Physics and a PhD from the Cavendish Laboratory. He is currently a Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies at the University of Glasgow, and has previously held a Quantum Technology Fellowship with the EPSRC. Paul has been integral to the UK Quantum Technology Programme and has directed the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, a chartered physicist, and a chartered engineer. With over 300 publications in peer-reviewed journals, he has received the Institute of Physics President's Medal in 2014. His research interests include silicon nanowires, quantum technologies, and integrated mid-infrared sensors, and he has supervised 30 PhD students and 29 postdoctoral researchers. Additionally, Paul participates in various government committees, representing the UK in NATO's Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Science Panel.
