Biography

Douglas Rothman is the director of the Magnetic Resonance Research Center (MRRC) at Yale School of Medicine, which currently supports NIH-funded work of more than 70 Principal Investigators and 13 program project grants. He has an international reputation as a leader in the development of novel magnetic resonance methods to study brain, liver, and muscle metabolism and function. His team has made significant advancements in bioimaging, including pioneering techniques for imaging glutamate and GABA neurotransmission as well as brain energy metabolism, liver, and muscle glycogen glucose metabolism control. Over the years, Dr. Rothman has mentored six postdoctoral fellows who have moved on to faculty positions at major research institutions globally, in addition to informally mentoring junior and mid-level faculty members utilizing MR technology in their research.
