Biography

Dror Weil is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Cambridge, focusing on Early Modern Asia and the Islamicate world. His research interests include the cultural, intellectual, and social histories of Late Imperial China, medical history, and the histories of book textuality. He earned his BA in East Asian Studies and Economics from Tel Aviv University, followed by an MA in History from National Chengchi University in Taipei. He completed his PhD at Princeton University with a dissertation on the interactions of Arabo-Persian knowledge in Late Imperial China between the 16th and 18th centuries. Dr. Weil has received fellowships including the Thomas Arthur Arnold Fund for Excellence in Historical Research and has held postdoctoral positions at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science. Since joining Cambridge in 2021, he has also contributed to various undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to early modern Asian history and science. Dr. Weil actively invites inquiries from prospective graduate students interested in the intersections of knowledge, texts, and cultural exchanges within the context of pre-modern Asia.
