Biography

Duangkamon Loesbanluechai is a Research Associate in Parasitology at the University of Glasgow’s School of Biodiversity, Health, and Veterinary Medicine. Since February 2021, she has been working as a postdoctoral researcher, focusing on the biology of malaria parasites and the application of genome editing tools. Her Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine was completed at Mahidol University in 2020, where she developed strong interests in parasite biology and the critical genetic factors controlling the life cycle of malaria parasites. Duangkamon has utilized CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing tools to analyze Plasmodium falciparum parasites, aiming to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with drug resistance in Southeast Asia. Currently, her research is centered on understanding transmission stages of malaria parasites and identifying genetic determinants that influence vector-parasite interactions among various mosquito species, which are essential for driving disease transmission. Prior to her Ph.D., she obtained an M.Sc. in Clinical Haematology Sciences and a B.Sc. in Medical Technology from Chulalongkorn University.
