Biography

Duen Horng Chau is a Professor in the School of Computational Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech and co-director of the MS Analytics program. He serves as the Director of the Industry Relations Institute Data Engineering Science (IDEaS) and as the Associate Director of the Corporate Relations Center for Machine Learning. His research interests span across AI Security, Explainable AI, and Visual Analytics, focusing on creating scalable interactive tools for interpreting complex AI models and making sense of massive datasets. Chau has made significant contributions to cybersecurity, human-centered AI, and graph visualization for social good. He completed his Ph.D. in Machine Learning at Carnegie Mellon University, where he received the Computer Science Dissertation Award, Honorable Mention, and has published over 200 refereed articles in prestigious venues. He has garnered several faculty awards from companies such as Google, Meta, and Intel, and has received the Georgia Tech-wide Senior Faculty Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award. His work has been featured in popular media, including the Wall Street Journal, Wired, and MIT Technology Review.
