Biography

Dr. Duncan Robert Cowan holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Geology from the University of Nottingham and a PhD focused on the Scandinavian Caledonides. With over 55 years of experience in exploration geophysics and geology, Dr. Cowan has worked across multiple continents, including Antarctica. His recent projects include exploration work in Finland, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Botswana, Mauritania, and Tanzania. As a consulting geophysicist, he specializes in the interpretation of magnetic, gravity, electromagnetic, and radiometric data, applying advanced computer techniques for data enhancement and analysis. His research interests feature topics such as kimberlites, lamproites, inversion of potential field data, and aeromagnetic studies concerning rock mineral magnetism. Dr. Cowan has lectured at the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London from 1978 to 1989. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the International Association for Mathematical Geology. Currently, his research is centered on the Limpopo Mobile Belt, utilizing various methods to process information and generate valuable insights.
