Biography

Duncan Richards is a Professor at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford. He is the Director of the new Centre for Clinical Therapeutics, established at the Botnar Research Centre. His research focuses on early-phase clinical trials and the development of new drug treatments, collaborating with a diverse range of biomedical researchers and industries. Duncan trained in medicine at the University of Oxford and undertook junior doctor roles in London before returning as a Clinical Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacology. He completed his DM thesis on a translational model using platelet ion flux to interrogate angiotensin biology and is an author of the Oxford Handbook of Practical Drug Therapy. Duncan joined GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in 2003, working in several clinical development roles before heading Clinical Pharmacology and Experimental Medicine at GSK's phase 1 experimental unit in Cambridge. He is also an externally appointed member of the MRC/NIHR EME Board and serves on committees for the British Pharmacological Society.
