Dr. Duncan Spalding

Biography

Clinical Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery. He has a clinical interest in HPB Surgery, with a specific focus on minimally invasive techniques, utilizing radiofrequency energy resection tools, and the treatment of cholangiocarcinomas and neuroendocrine tumors. He holds a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Southampton and an MB ChB from the University of Birmingham. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and has completed his MD at the University of London. His research is centered on the molecular pathogenesis of cholangiocarcinomas, aiming to identify novel therapeutic targets and improve early detection methods through novel biomarkers. He is also involved in the synthesis of novel molecular conjugates for targeted delivery to cholangiocarcinomas and studying the role of cancer-associated fibroblasts in chemoresistance in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
