Duncan Sparrow completed his PhD at the University of Adelaide in the field of the regulation of tissue-specific transcription. He then moved to the National Institute for Medical Research, Mill Hill for his postdoctoral research, working with Dr. Tim Mohun on developmental biology, particularly heart and skeletal muscle formation in Xenopus laevis. After returning to Australia, he took a position as a Senior Research Scientist in Professor Sally Dunwoodie's laboratory at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, where he investigated the genetic and environmental causes of congenital vertebral malformations in human patients and mouse models. His current research focus is on embryonic heart development, investigating how genetic and environmental factors can perturb normal development. He has been supported by funding from the British Heart Foundation, Additional Ventures, and the John Fell Fund.
