Biography

Dr. Tannant joined the School of Engineering at the University of British Columbia in 2008. He has held various key roles such as Acting Associate Dean, Civil Program Chair, Associate Director Undergraduate Studies in the School of Engineering, and Dean pro tem for the College of Graduate Studies. Before joining UBC, Dr. Tannant was a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta from 1998 to 2008. He served as the Director of the School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering during his tenure there. From 1989 to 1998, he was a Senior Research Engineer at the Geomechanics Research Centre and an adjunct professor at the School of Engineering at Laurentian University. Dr. Tannant is a registered professional engineer in British Columbia and Alberta, and a member of several professional organizations including CARMA, CDA, CGS, CIM, EIC, IAEG, and ISRM. He also works as a geotechnical engineering consultant for GeoPacific Consultants.
