Professor Dr. Dwayne Winseck

Biography

Dwayne Winseck is a Professor at the School of Journalism and Communication with a cross appointment at the Institute of Political Economy at Carleton University. His research focuses on the political economy of telecommunications, internet media, and media history, theory, policy, and regulation. He directs the Global Media Internet Concentration Project, funded by a Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Partnership Grant. His work examines media concentration, communication, and internet industry policy issues, which has garnered attention from the scholarly community and institutions such as the Canadian Parliament and the World Trade Organization. Winseck has co-authored the award-winning book 'Communication Empire: Media, Markets and Globalization, 1860-1930' and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. His current research project, the Global Media Internet Concentration Project, investigates the concentration of media and communication industries globally from 1984 to 2027 and includes participation from multiple academic and governmental partners.
