Biography

Dylan is an Adjunct Associate Research Scientist at the Columbia Climate School and the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University. He specializes in archaeology with a focus on remote sensing applications to study human-environment interactions. His research assesses human responses to hyper-variable environmental conditions, especially concerning societal actions that influence ecological systems amidst unpredictable climatic changes. Dylan's projects concentrate on island coastal regions, employing geospatial methods like remote sensing and GIS, alongside archaeological, ethnographic, and paleoecological data, to understand the interconnectivity between human agencies and ecological environments over the long term. Currently, his work involves examining the role of socioeconomic strategies in shaping long-term ecological dynamics, particularly focusing on how foraging, pastoralism, and agricultural practices impact landscapes. Dylan earned his Ph.D. in Anthropology from Pennsylvania State University in 2022 after completing an M.A. and B.S. in Anthropology and a B.A. in Geography at Binghamton University. He also serves as the Co-Editor Chief for Archaeological Prospection.
