Biography

Dylan Mulvin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he also serves as the Programme Director of the MSc Media Communications. His research focuses on the intersections of media, technology, and culture, employing methods from media studies, science and technology studies, gender studies, and disability studies. Mulvin investigates how media artifacts encode and crystallize assumptions about human perception, emotion, and behavior, exploring the ways in which seemingly mundane elements fall apart under scrutiny. He is the author of "Proxies: Cultural Work of Standing," published by MIT Press, which examines how institutions enact and maintain standards of human labor through the materialization of abstract ideas. His work has been widely published, addressing topics such as the history of mobile screens, the theoretical implications of atomic timekeeping, and the domestication of computing in the 1990s. Currently, he is also writing a monograph on the history of anger, art, and media, titled "Technologies of Rage."
