Dylan Stevenson’s research examines relationships between Indigenous Planning, Historic Preservation, and Environmental Planning. He is particularly interested in how restoration informs collective responses to climate change, land ethics, and Indigenous cultural revitalization. His work in planning continues to develop approaches for urban and rural communities to live sustainably and ecologically while facing the impacts of climate change. The needs of these communities centralize Indigenous epistemologies and worldviews to foster relationships with the land and promote Tribal sovereignty and self-determination as part of the process. His research has explored how governments at various levels normalize cultural values in water planning activities, and he has published work analyzing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in planning educational programs. Currently, his work focuses on the role of intangible cultural heritage, including language and cultural practices, in environmental Indigenous planning practices.
