Dr. Dzenan Sahovic

Biography

Dzenan Sahovic is an Associate Professor in Political Science at Umeå University focusing on research and teaching in crisis management and peacebuilding. He has a distinguished academic career with significant involvement in projects related to peace and security, particularly in post-war contexts like Bosnia and Herzegovina. His dissertation project examined the international involvement in post-war Bosnia, analyzing how the Office of the High Representative (OHR) influenced political dynamics during the implementation of the Dayton Agreement. Sahovic has led and managed various EU-funded research projects, including the CRIC initiative on cultural heritage in post-conflict societies. He has also directed the European CBRNE Centre, focusing on preparedness against chemical, biological, radio-nuclear, and explosive threats. In his teaching role, he heads the Master's Degree Program in Crisis Management and Peacebuilding and conducts courses on Crisis Management Systems and Comparative Perspectives, along with supervising master's theses and internships. His notable research interests include peacebuilding, societal security, anti-terrorism strategies, and the political landscape of the Balkan region. Sahovic actively participates in multiple research groups and has contributed to significant publications in his field.
