Dr. Dzifa Dordunoo

Biography

Dzifa Dordunoo, PhD, RN, originally from Dzodze, Ghana, has spent the past 15 years as a nurse educator in the Department of Anthropology. She began her teaching career in 2011 as a clinical instructor at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and has also taught at the University of Maryland, School of Nursing. Joining the UVic School of Nursing in 2017, Dr. Dordunoo teaches a variety of nursing courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with a focus on cardiac surgical nursing and research methodologies. Her clinical practice spans 20 years, primarily in general medicine, coronary care units, and outpatient clinics, addressing heart failure and sickle cell disease. As a scholar and researcher, she is committed to improving access to quality health services and employs dissemination and implementation science to examine factors influencing care outcomes. Recent research has focused on metal hypersensitivity and racism as predictors of health outcomes, drawing from her extensive clinical experience with allergy-related issues. Dr. Dordunoo holds a bachelor's degree with distinction from the University of Victoria, a master's degree from Duke University, and a doctorate from the University of Maryland Baltimore, supported by a certificate in clinical research management. She serves on the board of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Canada.
