E. Ruth Chaytor graduated from Memorial University Medical School in 1986. She completed a Mixed Internship at Montreal General Hospital in 1987 and her orthopaedic residency at Dalhousie University in 1992. Dr. Chaytor undertook a 5-month clinical fellowship in Trauma Reconstruction and a 1-year fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, as well as a 3-month fellowship in Orthotics and Prosthetics at the Université de Montreal. She has been an attending orthopaedic surgeon at Jewish General Hospital since 1997 and is currently the Chief of Surgical Services there. Dr. Chaytor holds the position of Fellowship Director for the Orthopaedic Foot Ankle Teaching Unit and serves as an Associate Professor of Surgery at McGill University, where she also chairs the Orthopaedic Competency Committee. Throughout her career, she has received several honors, including the Kathryn Rolph Award in 2000 for her contributions to advancing women in the department of surgery, the Harvey H. Sigman Award in 2014 for excellence in undergraduate teaching, and the Robert Turcotte Award in 2018 for altruistic physician care. Her clinical interests include Ankle Arthritis and Rheumatoid Diabetic Foot Disorders.
