Biography

E. Jennifer Edelman, MD, MHS, is a distinguished professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in HIV addiction medicine. She has extensive experience in managing patient care that includes complications associated with HIV/AIDS, such as HIV-associated myopathy and neurocognitive disorders. Her research significantly focuses on optimizing treatment for substance use disorders within HIV clinics and developing emergency department-initiated buprenorphine programs. Additionally, Dr. Edelman leads NIH-funded projects aimed at evaluating innovative methods for implementing evidence-based addiction treatment in medical settings, particularly those involving HIV treatment. She advocates for HIV prevention strategies and promotes the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in collaboration with community public health partners. Dr. Edelman is committed to training the next generation of professionals; she mentors post-doctoral fellows, public health students, and serves as Associate Director of the Research Addiction Medicine Scholars (RAMS) Program at Yale. Furthermore, she contributes to the academic community by participating in NIH grant review committees and holding the position of Associate Editor for Addiction Science & Clinical Practice.
