Dr. E Topan

Biography

E. Topan is an Associate Professor at the University of Twente in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Business Information Systems. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Middle East Technical University in Turkey in 2010. His research focuses on building resilience and agility in supply chains and production systems through the combination of model-driven methods, data-driven learning, and hybrid AI. He addresses challenges in high-mix, low-volume (HMLV) production environments and emphasizes the importance of predictive planning in uncertain conditions. He leads various research projects, including developing AI-based predictive supply planning and machine scheduling techniques while supervising PhD candidates. Before joining the University of Twente, he worked as a researcher and instructor at Cankaya University, Turkish Military Academy, Eindhoven University of Technology, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. His areas of expertise include operations research, logistics, and hybrid AI-supported planning methods for complex supply chain issues. He actively collaborates with industries to bridge the gap between scientific research and practical applications, ensuring that his work translates into meaningful improvements within the sector.
