Dr. Ebony Mcgee

Biography

Ebony McGee is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins University's School of Education, specializing in innovation and inclusion within the STEM ecosystem. With a background in electrical engineering and as a 13-time NSF investigator, she is a leading expert on race and structural racism in traditional STEM education. Her research focuses on the mental and physical health consequences that Black and minoritized students face in STEM occupations, shedding light on barriers to resiliency and wellness. McGee founded the Racial Revolutionary and Inclusive Guidance for Health Throughout STEM (R-RIGHTS) initiative and co-founded the Explorations Diversifying Engineering Faculty Initiative (EDEFI) and the Institute in Critical Quantitative and Mixed Methodologies Training (ICQCM). She is involved in national conversations and initiatives promoting diversity and inclusion in engineering education and STEM entrepreneurship. Her key work emphasizes equity ethics, informed by interviews with underrepresented students and professionals in STEM. McGee's publications span notable academic journals, and her book, 'Black, Brown, Bruised: How Racialized STEM Education Stifles Innovation', explores the motivators for persistence among underrepresented students.
