Biography

Ed Chan-Stroud is a Research Fellow specializing in Christian Ethics at the University of Oxford. He studied Philosophy and Theology at Durham University and completed his MPhil studies at Cambridge University. His work intersects psychology and theology, particularly exploring the nature of Christian spirituality and deification through psychological systems. His research interest, which began with his DPhil, focuses on the psychological dynamics within the infant-parent relationship and its relation to deifying participation in the Triune Life. This work posits that parental language used in scripture to describe God reflects a deeper psychological and theological understanding of the relationship between God and humanity. Chan-Stroud has also served as a Temporary Medical Ethics Advisor to the Church of England, particularly regarding the Church's response to the Assisted Dying Bill, and as a theological advisor for the Church of England's Ethical Investment Advisory Group. His ongoing research investigates the trauma experienced by clergy in ministry and how this informs a psychologically-informed theology of the Church's liturgy, especially the interaction of liturgical practices with the aftermath of trauma.
