Biography

Ed Kwock Goo received his Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science Engineering from Cornell University in 1978 and his Master's Degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1980. He later obtained his Doctoral Degree in Materials Engineering from Stanford University in 1985. Dr. Goo's career began as a Senior Research Engineer at Fairchild Research Development, where he worked before returning to academia. He has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Robert Lansing Hardy Gold Medal from the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers in 1986, which recognizes a young materials scientist showing outstanding promise. Furthermore, he was awarded the Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation in 1988 and the Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research in 1990. His research focuses on phase transformation, crystal defects, transmission electron microscopy, deformation twinning of intermetallics, cation ordering in complex perovskites, and cathode materials for Li-ion batteries.
