Dr. Eddo Rigotti

Biography

Eddo Rigotti is a full professor at the University of Italian Switzerland, where he has significantly contributed to the field of verbal communication and argumentation theory. He served as the dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences and directed the Institute for Linguistic and Semiotic Studies. Previously, he held a full professorship in General Linguistics at the Catholic University of Milan from 1983 to 2002. Rigotti’s research initially focused on formal linguistics within the tradition of Soviet categorical grammar, examining the semantic and pragmatic roles of Italian articles. His work has emphasized the flexibility of linguistic systems and the importance of contextual inference in verbal communication. His recent research has explored semantic-pragmatic models grounded in the notion of congruity, with a focus on argumentation theory and its applications in areas such as intercultural communication. Rigotti has published extensively on the dynamics of argumentation and persuasive communication in professional contexts, particularly within banking and education. He is also the chief editor of 'Studies in Communication Sciences' and an active member of various academic committees.
