Biography

Dr. Hockmann's academic focus is on the development and teaching of point of care ultrasound in the clinical setting. He pursued an advanced degree through the University of Toronto Master Teacher Program and holds American board certification in perioperative echocardiography. Dr. Hockmann is a pioneer in education regarding point of care ultrasound in critical care anesthesia, having developed and deployed a peer-tested point of care ultrasound curriculum within the Division of Critical Care Medicine. Additionally, he established a point of care ultrasound elective rotation for anesthesia trainees at the University of Toronto and is involved in developing a multi-site, holistic competence portfolio based curriculum for trainees. He has established a reputation as an expert in point of care ultrasound, evidenced by delivering 20 invited lectures at the national level. As a writing member of the Canadian Training Guidelines for point of care ultrasound education, Dr. Hockmann values the provision of meaningful clinical instruction to graduating practicing clinicians. He also serves on the core faculty for the Emergency Critical Care Airway Management course, which equips providers with cognitive approaches and skills to manage emergent airways.
