Biography

Edo Poglia has served as the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the Università della Svizzera italiana in the early 2000s and has directed the Institute of Institutional and Educational Communication (ICIeF) as a full professor. He taught Education Policy at the University of Geneva (Department of Education Sciences) and chaired the Council of the Swiss University of Applied Sciences until September 2002. From 1987 to 2000, he was the Director of the Center for Science and Technology Studies in Bern and the Secretary General of the Swiss Science and Technology Council, the advisory body to the Swiss federal government on policies in these areas. His academic training in Electronic Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich initially directed him toward industrial research in this field. He later pursued Sociology at the University of Neuchâtel, earning a doctorate in Sociology of Education, shifting his research interests to social, cultural, and regional differences and inequalities in the educational field, as well as innovation management and education policies, particularly in higher education. Additionally, he has focused on issues related to intercultural communication and more broadly on intercultural relations, which are reflected in many of his scientific publications. Moreover, he was part of the expert committee of the Swiss National Science Foundation that managed the national research program on the Effectiveness of Education Systems and served as the President of the Swiss Society for Educational Research and Vice-President of the OECD Education Committee.
