Biography

Prof. Edouard Bugnion is a Full Professor at the School of Computer Science and Communications at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). His primary focus integrates teaching and research in the field of data center systems. After joining EPFL in 2012, he spent 18 years at Stanford University earning his Ph.D. and co-founding VMware and Nuova Systems, which was later acquired by Cisco. He held various significant positions at VMware as CTO and at Cisco as VP/CTO within the Server, Access, and Virtualization Technology Group. Additionally, he is an ACM Fellow and a member of the Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences (SATW), as well as the recipient of the ACM Software Systems Award. Bugnion served as EPFL's Vice President of Information Systems from 2017 to 2020 and is now the Vice President of Innovation Impact. His research interests include aspects of data center systems, particularly in datacenter efficiency, infrastructure support for network and data planes, and system security.
