Dr. Edris Hassan

Biography

Edris Hassan is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Mechatronics Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering, with over 16 years of experience in academia and more than 8 years in progressively responsible supervisory and management roles in industry. His primary focus lies in engineering design, product development, mechanical manufacturing engineering, project management, and energy efficient practices in green building. He has successfully led multidisciplinary teams and has accumulated a wealth of knowledge across various domains. Edris holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Dalhousie University, Canada, and has completed a Certificate in University Teaching and Learning. As a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), as well as a LEED Green Associate, he is committed to bridging the gap between industry and academia. His teaching spans sophomore engineering courses through to senior applied mechanics design courses, along with supervision of capstone design projects for graduate students. Edris has actively incorporated industry-specific software and machinery into his curriculum, fostering a technology-enriched learning environment. His research interests include additive manufacturing, composite materials, smart structures, and clean technology, and he has published scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and presented at conferences. Edris is proactive in academic leadership roles, mentoring academic technical groups and participating in accreditation teams. He is dedicated to continuous learning and aims to create a motivating learning environment that inspires students in their engineering journeys.
