Dr. Edris Hassan

Biography

Edris Hassan is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Mechatronics Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering. He brings 16 years of experience in academia and has over 8 years of progressively responsible supervisory management roles in the industry. His focus includes engineering design, product development, mechanical manufacturing engineering, project management, and green building practices. Dr. Hassan has led multidisciplinary teams and acquired a wealth of knowledge in various domains. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Dalhousie University, Canada, and completed a Certificate in University Teaching and Learning (CUTL). As a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from PMI-USA, he is committed to bridging the gap between industry and academia by developing balanced curricula and leading applied research and development projects. His teaching experience spans from sophomore engineering courses to senior applied mechanics design courses and supervision of capstone projects for graduate students. Dr. Hassan has collaborated with industries and participated in international competitions, implementing industry-specific software and machinery to create a technology-enriched learning environment. His strong background in additive manufacturing, composite materials, and smart structures, alongside a commitment to continuous learning and improvement in teaching, research, and consultancy, aims to inspire students and foster innovation in engineering practices.
