Biography

Eduardo Rega Calvo is a licensed architect from the Canary Islands, currently residing in the South Bronx. He is a full-time Lecturer in Architecture at Penn’s Weitzman School of Design, where he has been teaching since 2014. Eduardo is also a co-founder of an interdisciplinary research design practice called Interim Studio. His research and design work examine architecture's ability to contribute to social and environmental movements for justice. One of his notable projects, 'Architectures Refusal,' initiated in 2017, frames and situates a politically varied approach to research and pedagogy. Eduardo's practice is rooted in urban architectural design theory and intersects with critical geography and political theory. He engages with diverse disciplines and scales, considering architecture as an expanded field of spatial knowledge that promotes life-sustaining practices aligned with eco-feminism, decolonialism, and anti-racist movements. His work has been situated in various contexts, including Latin America, North Africa, the Middle East, Detroit, Philadelphia, and the South Bronx.
