Eduardo Saiz Gutierrez joined Imperial College in October 2009 after completing his PhD at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid in 1992. His PhD project was undertaken at the Instituto de Cerámica y Vidrio - CSIC. Following this, he worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, funded by a Fulbright fellowship, where he remained a staff scientist until 2009. His research interests include the development of novel processing techniques for the fabrication of ceramic-based composites, particularly hierarchical composites with bioinspired architectures, as well as high-temperature interfacial phenomena and the fabrication of graphene-based structures for bone tissue engineering. Eduardo is currently the director of the Centre for Advanced Structural Ceramics (CASC) at Imperial College and coordinates the BioBone Initial Training Network, a project funded under the FP7 framework involving multiple academic and industrial partners.
