Biography

Eduardo Tapia is an Associate Professor at Linköping University, specializing in analytical sociology and the study of segregation dynamics. His research combines statistical simulation methods to analyze the complexities of school and residential segregation. Tapia's work often examines the interdependencies of social phenomena, utilizing simulation models as social laboratories to illustrate how individual actions correlate with structural settings and influence macro-social patterns. He leads a project at the Institute of Analytical Sociology (IAS) focused on neighborhood reputations and their impact on residential school choices for households in Sweden. Tapia employs advanced techniques, including large language models, to analyze data from Swedish newspapers and online media. With a background in analytical sociology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, he earned his Ph.D. with a thesis titled 'A Dynamic Study of Rumor Diffusion.' At Linköping University, he directs the course 'Agent-Based Modeling in Social Sciences,' which is a core component of the Master’s program in Computational Social Science. His current research includes multiple works in progress related to residential mobility and segregation processes.
