Biography

Ed Barrows is a Professor of Practice in Leadership at Brown University, where he teaches leadership courses in the Professional Masters programs. He instructs short courses and serves as lead faculty for Brown Executive Education programs. With over 25 years of experience, Ed has worked with leaders at various levels in strategy, strategic leadership, and leader development. Before joining Brown, he served as Managing Director at Duke Corporate Education, where he was responsible for designing and delivering programs for a portfolio of Fortune 1000 clients. His previous career includes positions at Deloitte, General Electric, PwC, and the Palladium Group. Ed has also taught at Harvard University, Boston College, and Babson College, where he designed and instructed courses related to strategy, organizational behavior, and influence. He is the co-author of the books 'Twelve Skills: A Guide to Becoming a Strong Leader and Accelerating Your Career' (Rethink, 2023) and 'Managing Performance in Turbulent Times: Insights and Analytics' (2012, Wiley). Before his private sector career, Ed served as a logistics officer in the Marine Corps, where he commanded at the platoon and company level during operations in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He is a graduate of Boston University, Georgetown University, and Cranfield University, and is an ICF certified executive coach.
