Biography

Edward Jonathan Bergman was a distinguished academic known for his expertise in mediation and dispute resolution. He obtained his B.A. with honors in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania and later earned a J.D. from Columbia University. Bergman worked as a graduate fellow at the Annenberg School of Communications, focusing on documentary filmmaking. He established a private law practice in Princeton, NJ, where he mediated numerous cases across state and federal courts. In 1995, he returned to his alma mater to teach undergraduate courses at the Wharton School of Business, significantly contributing to fields of negotiation and dispute resolution. Bergman received several accolades for his teaching, including the William G. Whitney Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Education. He also founded the Penn Program for the Management of Clinical Conflict within the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy. Besides his academic pursuits, he authored and co-authored articles published in peer-reviewed journals, reflecting his dedication to bioethics and mediation. Bergman’s deep-rooted passion for Penn athletics, especially basketball, coupled with his love for fine wines, marked his vibrant personal life.
