Originally from Ohio, Edward F. Brown completed his undergraduate studies at Ohio State University and earned his Ph.D. in 1999 from the University of California, Berkeley under the supervision of Professor Lars Bildsten, a member of the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at UCSB. Supported by a NASA Graduate Student Fellowship during his time at Berkeley, Brown was awarded the Enrico Fermi Fellowship at the University of Chicago upon graduation. At Chicago, he worked at the ASC Center for Astrophysical Thermonuclear Flashes. In 2004, he moved to Michigan State University to join the faculty of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, with a joint appointment at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. He is also affiliated with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Astrophysics, an NSF Physics Frontier Center. In 2018, he became the Associate Chair of the Department of Computational Science, Mathematics, and Engineering at MSU and is currently serving as the interim Chair of the department. His research interests primarily focus on stellar nuclear astrophysics, particularly related to compact objects and stellar explosions. In his free time, Brown enjoys running and cycling.
