Biography

Edward H. Cooper is a Professor Emeritus of Law at the University of Michigan Law School, where he has been a faculty member since 1972. He was named the Thomas M. Cooley Professor of Law in 1988. Cooper has co-authored, alongside the late C.A. Wright and A.R. Miller, the original and subsequent editions of 'Federal Practice and Procedure: Jurisdiction,' which is a leading multi-volume treatise on federal jurisdiction and procedure. He has contributed to legal scholarship for over 40 years. In 1991 and 1992, Cooper served as a member of the Judicial Conference Civil Rules Advisory Committee, where he also acted as the reporter for the committee in 1992. Furthermore, he has been a member of the Council of the American Law Institute since 1988 and became an emeritus member in 2013, providing his expertise as an adviser on various projects. Before his tenure at the University of Michigan, Cooper spent five years as an associate professor at the University of Minnesota Law School.
