Biography

Edward de Haan is a trained clinical neuropsychologist with expertise in visual, auditory, and somatosensory perception, as well as memory, emotion, and consciousness. He earned his PhD in 1988 at the University of Groningen, focusing on face recognition disorders. His career includes significant roles at the University of Amsterdam, where he holds a Chair in Neuropsychology and has served as Dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, overseeing six departments. He has published extensively, contributing to over 250 scientific papers and numerous chapters and books. His research interests extend from practical clinical neuropsychological issues to fundamental neuroscience, particularly in understanding the neurocognitive basis of hallucinations in clinical populations. De Haan has supervised 47 PhD students and has served on various editorial boards, as well as being an active member of international neuropsychological societies. He has received several awards for his contributions, including the BNS Freda Newcombe Prize and the INS Paul Satz Award.
