Dr. Edward Frees

Biography

Edward W. (Jed) Frees is a prominent Professor at the Australian National University, where he has made significant contributions to the field of actuarial science. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the American Statistical Association, organizations that collectively include thousands of members. Frees has held leadership positions such as the founding chairperson of the Society of Actuaries' Education Research Section and has served on the Board of Directors for the Society of Actuaries as well as being a Trustee of the Actuarial Foundation. Notably, in 1999, he acted as the actuarial representative on the Social Security Advisory Board's Technical Panel on Methods and Assumptions, providing crucial advice to the federal government regarding the long-term solvency of the Social Security system. He is currently an Editor on the Honorary Advisory Board of the North American Actuarial Journal and serves as an Associate Editor for both 'Insurance: Mathematics and Economics' and 'Annals of Actuarial Science'. Frees also engages in supervising research students, actively contributing to the academic community by guiding new scholars through their research endeavors.
