Biography

Edward Furman is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at York University, where he leads the Actuarial Science Program. He is the founding director of the Risk Insurance Studies Centre (RISC), an interdisciplinary research unit that focuses on insurance risk topics. Furman holds a Master's Degree in Actuarial Science with distinction and a Ph.D. in Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics from the University of Haifa, Israel. His papers, especially in Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, have garnered significant accolades, including the prestigious Fortis Chair Paper Prize from K.U. Leuven, Belgium. His work has received funding from prominent bodies such as the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the Society of Actuaries. Furman has served as an external consultant for various organizations including the Central Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Finance in Israel, and he holds the distinction of being a Fellow in the Science Leadership Program at the University of Toronto. Additionally, he is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Statistical Distributions and Applications published by Springer.
