Biography

Edward M. Greitzer is the H.N. Slater Professor in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT, where he also serves as the Director of the Gas Turbine Laboratory and as the Interim Department Head. Greitzer holds a B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. from Harvard University. Before joining MIT, he worked at United Technologies Corporation and Pratt & Whitney, where he held leadership positions in aeromechanics and fluid systems. His research focuses on gas turbines, turbomachinery, propulsion system-airframe integration, and active control fluid systems. Greitzer was instrumental in projects like the Cambridge-MIT Silent Aircraft Initiative and NASA's D8 aircraft project. He is a four-time recipient of the ASME Gas Turbine Award and has been recognized as a Freeman Scholar and an IGTI Scholar. In addition to his research, Greitzer has authored over 90 publications and has been engaged with multiple educational and engineering initiatives. He is also a member of several prestigious engineering academies and has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the field of mechanical engineering.
