Biography

Edward Hollis studied Architecture at Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities, before practicing as an architect for six years in Sri Lanka under the renowned Geoffrey Bawa, known for his garden follies and ruins at Lunuganga, as well as working with Richard Murphy on radical alterations of ancient historic buildings in Edinburgh. In 1999, he began lecturing in Interior Architecture at Napier University, focusing on student design studios and theoretical disciplines. By 2004, he joined the Edinburgh College of Art, where he has been pivotal in running undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Interior Design, currently teaching MA Interior Architectural and Spatial Design. Hollis has held several leadership roles, including Deputy Director of Research and Director of Research at the Edinburgh College of Art, managing submissions for the Research Excellence Framework. His research spans from working with ruins in Sri Lanka to modern interventions in Scotland's historic buildings, exploring narrative structures that connect time with the built environment. His publications include 'The Secret Lives of Buildings' and 'The Memory Palace', alongside other works addressing interior design and cultural heritage.
