Edward (Ed) B. Joy is a Professor Emeritus in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he obtained his BEE, MSEE, and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering. He is a Life Fellow of IEEE for his contributions to the theory, techniques, and applications of near-field antenna measurements. He is also a Fellow of the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA) for his work on near-field and compact polarization measurement techniques. Dr. Joy is a member of the Electromagnetics Academy and has received several awards including the 1997 Georgia Tech Continuing Education Award and the 1999 AMTA Distinguished Achievement Award. He has consulted for 154 private and public organizations and has authored chapters in six technical books. Dr. Joy has coauthored 25 short course texts focusing on various areas such as antennas (including communication and radar antennas), antenna measurements (far-field, near-field, and compact anechoic chamber measurements), radomes, and power system grounding. He has authored or coauthored 119 reviewed papers and 43 major research reports and has served as principal or co-principal researcher on 52 funded research programs. Throughout his career, Dr. Joy has presented 362 short courses and invited seminars in Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East, and he currently teaches four professional education short courses at Georgia Tech on topics related to antenna engineering and measurement techniques.
