Edward Mann received a BA in Experimental Psychology (1996), an MSc in Neuroscience (1998), and a DPhil in Pharmacology (2002) from the University of Oxford. He conducted postdoctoral research on cortical network physiology under the mentorship of Professor Ole Paulsen at the University of Oxford from 2002 to 2006 and subsequently with Professor Istvan Mody at the University of California, Los Angeles from 2007 to 2010. He was appointed as a University Lecturer in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics in 2011 and holds a Tutorial Fellowship at St Hugh's College. He currently has a BBSRC New Investigator Award. His research primarily focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying oscillations and plasticity in mammalian cortical circuits in health and disease. He collaborates with Professor Tony Wilson and Dr. Gil Bub to develop advanced optical microscopy techniques essential for dissecting cortical circuit function. His group also works with Professor David Paterson and Dr. Gil Bub to explore neural control of cardiac rhythms, with particular interest in interdisciplinary research that provides insights into mechanisms of autonomic dysfunction, sudden death, and epilepsy.
