Biography

Edward R. Mariano, MD, MAS, FASA, FASRA, is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Chief of the Anesthesiology, Perioperative Pain Medicine Service at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System. He graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his anesthesiology residency at Stanford University Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. He has a special interest in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine, particularly for children, and is double board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Mariano founded the RAAPM program at UCSD and has held multiple leadership positions in various professional organizations. His research is focused on the development of techniques to improve postoperative pain control and patient safety. With over 300 published articles and book chapters, he has been influential in advancing the field, particularly through the implementation of opioid-sparing techniques. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to anesthesiology and continues to participate actively in clinical trials and research.
